Pounding Rice Bowl 擂一碗

Rating: 3.5⭐

Ordered:
单人套餐 B: $19.90
- Pork mince and eggplant with chilli 肉沫茄子擂饭
- Matcha mochi

I came here for lunch by myself. Very much a lot of Chinese people eating here. The gimmick is that you can crush your rice in a grinder. I don't know why someone would want to do that - I really came here just for some comforting Chinese food.

They actually have 酸梅汤 and various other pickled dishes that usually go with congee, unlimited and free. I really love my 酸梅汤 so this was great.

I think the portion size was quite large - I couldn't finish my entire bowl, although I've not had much of an appetite recently. The mochi was a hard pass - it was super thin, basically the kind of mochi sheets they use to wrap ice cream in those places that do ice cream mochi, and matcha flavoured cream in the middle. Not worth it.

The rice dish I got was alright. It's a little bit spicy but not too bad. I liked the eggplant. There was very little pork mince. Rice was nice and soft. It was a nice comforting meal. Nothing particularly write-home-about though.
