Deep End Pizza

Rating: 4.5 ⭐

Ordered:
- quadruple pepperoni Detroit-style: $37

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I went to London and tried Detroit Pizza there. The London pizza was actually incredible, and Melbourne doesn't have many places that do Detroit-style pizza. In fact I wonder if this is the only place that does it.

I came here with a friend without a booking, so we were sat at the bar table. This place also does Chicago deep-dish pizza, as well as the classic New York style pizza - so all the most popular American varieties. We ordered the Detroit-style mostly so I could see how it compared to the London one. I've heard through other reviews that there isn't anywhere in Melbourne that does it like the London place.

This pepperoni pizza was quite good. My friend did say it was worth the trek to get here, which is always nice to hear. The focaccia was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - although the base was a bit overcooked and difficult to cut through with the butter knives we were supplied. The toppings were lovely, albeit a bit too salty. I liked the piped cheese on the top, gave it a nice touch.

When compared to the London pizza - the London pizza had a thicker focaccia layer, I think the toppings were more balanced and more unique (although that might have been to do with the flavour we chose), and I think the crispy-to-soft ratio was more perfect in the London pizza. Overall this Melbourne pizza was a fair mark off from measuring up to the London pizza; but overall it was still a great pizza.

No card surcharge here. May need to book ahead of time.
