Udon Izakaya Maedaya

Rating: 3.5⭐️

Ordered:
- Miso nikomi udon: $17.80

I came here for dinner with a friend. I've been turned off tonkotsu ramen but I'm still down for some good old udon. I find udon generally quite plain, especially the Japanese stuff, but the thick noodles are nice. I got the 'hot pot' style udon here; it's also an izakaya and they have a LOT of interesting alcoholic drinks but I didn't end up trying any of those.

This udon was alright. It took a while to be sent out and it was slightly smaller than I expected. Definitely not like it looked in the photo. I found the broth to be a bit too salty. There was a relatively good variety of stuff in the noodles though, which was nice, because I find normal udon a bit plain. There were two bits of tofu, like 1 leaf of cabbage, an onsen egg, three bits of chicken, and a slice of mushroom. It felt like they definitely skimped out on the extras.

I think the interesting alcohol here might have given it a higher rating if I had bothered to try any. But the udon itself was slightly disappointing.

Minimal card surcharge. Also 10% Sunday surcharge.
