Osaka Bench

Rating: 4.5 ⭐

Ordered:
- Omurice with Japanese gravy: $17
- Chicken katsu don: $16

Came here for lunch with my friend because I've been craving omurice for a while and haven't come across any good ones. A couple years back I think it must've been on trend because I felt like I had it all the time; now I had to Google to find a place that did it. This wasn't even true tornado omurice... anyway.

This restaurant was really really small - so much smaller than I expected. It's tucked away near Flinders Lane and can only sit about 12 people total on the bar and on the small tables. I would only ever come here with one extra person I think.

I got my craved omurice and it was pretty good. The rice was actually INSIDE the egg, so not quite the same as I expected, but the rice was salty with gravy and chicken pieces and onion, which was really nice and hearty. It came with one singular piece of chicken karaage. The food was good, nothing mind-blowing, but I do love myself a nice Japanese restaurant and this place hits the spot. The environment being so cramped also lost it some points.

My friend got the chicken katsu don, which was a massive rice bowl for relatively cheap. The prices here are quite reasonable. It is just chicken katsu and rice though.

Slight card surcharge here.
